नगर परिषद पांवटा साहिब के चेयरमैन एवं वाईस चेयरमैन पद के चुनाव शुक्रवार को नगर परिषद सभागार में दोपहर 2 बजे आयोजित होने थे, लेकिन आवश्यक प्रक्रिया पूरी न होने के कारण चुनाव स्थगित कर दिए गए। इस घटनाक्रम के बाद राजनीतिक माहौल गर्मा गया और भाजपा समर्थित पार्षदों ने सरकार एवं प्रशासन पर चुनाव टालने के आरोप लगाए। जानकारी के अनुसार नगर परिषद के 13 पार्षदों में से केवल 8 पार्षद ही बैठक में उपस्थित हुए। चुनाव प्रक्रिया की अध्यक्षता के लिए एसडीएम पांवटा साहिब द्विज गोयल को उपस्थित होना था, लेकिन स्वास्थ्य कारणों के चलते वे बैठक में नहीं पहुंच सके। उनकी जगह तहसीलदार पांवटा साहिब बैठक में पहुंचे और उपस्थित पार्षदों को अवगत कराया कि एसडीएम अस्वस्थ होने के कारण चुनाव प्रक्रिया संपन्न नहीं करवाई जा सकती। इसके चलते बैठक को स्थगित करते हुए चुनाव के लिए नई तिथि बाद में निर्धारित किए जाने की घोषणा की गई। बैठक स्थगित होने के बाद भाजपा समर्थित पार्षदों ने कड़ा विरोध जताया। उनका आरोप है कि प्रदेश सरकार प्रशासन पर दबाव बनाकर चुनाव प्रक्रिया को जानबूझकर टालने का प्रयास कर रही है। इस मामले पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए पांवटा साहिब के भाजपा विधायक सुखराम चौधरी ने कहा कि सरकार की मंशा नगर परिषद के चुनाव करवाने की नहीं है। उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि चेयरमैन और वाईस चेयरमैन के चुनाव जानबूझकर टाले जा रहे हैं ताकि लोकतांत्रिक प्रक्रिया प्रभावित हो सके। चुनाव स्थगित होने से नगर परिषद में राजनीतिक सरगर्मियां तेज हो गई हैं और अब सभी की निगाहें प्रशासन द्वारा घोषित की जाने वाली अगली चुनाव तिथि पर टिकी हैं। भाजपा नेताओं और पार्षदों ने चेतावनी दी है कि यदि चुनाव प्रक्रिया में अनावश्यक देरी की गई तो वे इस मुद्दे को न्यायालय में लेकर जाएंगे!

Elections for the posts of Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Paonta Sahib Municipal Council were scheduled to be held at the Council hall on Friday at 2:00 PM; however, they were postponed as necessary formalities could not be completed. This development heated up the political atmosphere, with BJP-backed councilors accusing the government and the administration of deliberately stalling the election. According to reports, only 8 out of the 13 Municipal Council councilors attended the meeting. Paonta Sahib SDM Dwij Goyal was supposed to preside over the election process but could not attend due to health reasons. In his place, the Paonta Sahib Tehsildar attended the meeting and informed the councilors present that the election process could not be conducted because the SDM was unwell. Consequently, the meeting was adjourned, and it was announced that a new date for the election would be fixed later. Following the adjournment, BJP-backed councilors expressed strong protest. They alleged that the state government is deliberately trying to delay the election process by pressuring the administration. Reacting to the matter, Paonta Sahib BJP MLA Sukhram Chaudhary stated that the government has no intention of holding the Municipal Council elections. He alleged that the elections for Chairman and Vice-Chairman are being intentionally postponed to undermine the democratic process. The postponement has intensified political activity within the Municipal Council, and all eyes are now fixed on the next election date to be announced by the administration.
