अमर शहीद शेर सिंह के पैतृक गांव सूरजपुर स्थित शहीद स्मारक पर प्रातः 10 बजे भूतपूर्व सैनिक संगठन पांवटा साहिब व शिलाई क्षेत्र व वीर नारी वीना देवी तथा परिवार के सदस्यों ने शहीद स्मारक के संरक्षक उद्योगपति दीपक गोयल की उपस्थिति में अमर शहीद को श्रद्धासुमन अर्पित कर उन्हें भावभीनी श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की। इससे पूर्व शहीद की धर्मपत्नी वीना देवी व परिवार के सदस्यों ने शहीद स्मारक स्थल पर पूजा एवं यज्ञ करवाया। सनंद रहे की शहीद शेर सिंह के स्मृति स्थल की देखरेख की जिम्मेदारी स्वेछा से तिरुपति फार्मा ग्रुप के पास है। उधोगपति दीपक गोयल ने परिवार तथा भूतपूर्व सैनिक संगठन के सदस्यों के साथ मिलकर तिरंगा फेहराया। तदोपरान्त राजकीय वरिष्ठ विद्यालय पूरूवाला की छात्राओं ने राष्ट्रीय गान गाया। उसके बाद शहीद परिवार को सम्मान देकर शहीद शेर सिंह के बलिदान को याद किया गया। संगठन के पदाधिकारियों ने शहीद शेर सिंह के व्यक्तित्व पर प्रकाश डाला। शहीद शेर सिंह 14वीं बटालियन जम्मू व कश्मीर राईफल्स रेजिमेंट के अंतर्गत ऑपरेशन रक्षक में 28वीं राष्ट्रीय राईफल बटालियन के अधीन कश्मीर में तैनात थे। 27 मई 2003 को शेर सिंह पाकिस्तानी घुसपैठियों से लोहा लेते हुए वीरगति को प्राप्त हुए। उन्हें उनके अदम्य साहस व बहादुरी के लिए हमेशा याद रखा जाएगा।

 वर्तमान में शहीद शेर सिंह के परिवार में उनकी धर्मपत्नी वीना व पुत्री रश्मि एवं पुत्र पंकज तथा उनकी अर्धांगिनी है। परिवार, गांव व क्षेत्र के सभी लोगों को शेर सिंह के बलिदान पर गर्व है। भूतपूर्व सेनिक संगठन पाँवटा साहिब व शिलाई क्षेत्र के पदाधिकारिओं ने बताया कि ऑपरेशन रक्षक में भारत माता की सीमाओं की रक्षा के लिए दिए गए उनके सर्वोच्च बलिदान को देश हमेशा याद रखेगा।

इस मौके पर शहीद शेर सिंह की धर्मपत्नी वीना व पुत्री रश्मि तथा पुत्र पंकज व उनकी अर्धांगिनी और उद्योगपति दीपक गोयल तथा जिला सैनिक कल्याण विभाग के उपनिदेशक डायरेक्टर दीपक धवन के भूतपूर्व सैनिक संगठन पाँवटा-शिलाई के अध्यक्ष करनैल सिंह,
पूर्व अध्यक्ष वीरेंद्र सिंह, उपाध्यक्ष हरिंदर सिंह, सचिव ओमप्रकाश चौहान, कोषाध्यक्ष इंदर सिंह, हाकम सिंह, संतराम, सुरेंद्र सिंह तथा राजकीय वरिष्ठ माध्यमिक विद्यालय पुरुवाला से संतराम चौहान और ज्योति चौधरी तथा दर्जनों विधार्थियों के अलावा अन्य कई गणमान्य व्यक्ति मौजूद रहे।

Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Sher Singh Observed in Surajpur, Paonta

At 10:00 AM, at the Martyr Memorial located in Surajpur—the ancestral village of the immortal martyr Shaheed Sher Singh—the Ex-Servicemen Organization of the Paonta Sahib and Shillai regions, along with Veer Nari (martyr’s widow) Veena Devi and family members, paid a heartfelt tribute to the martyr by offering floral homage. This ceremony took place in the presence of industrialist Deepak Goyal, the patron of the Martyr Memorial. Prior to this, the martyr’s wife, Veena Devi, and other family members performed a Puja (worship ceremony) and Yagna at the memorial site. It is noteworthy that the responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of Shaheed Sher Singh’s memorial site has been voluntarily undertaken by the Tirupati Pharma Group. Industrialist Deepak Goyal, joined by the family and members of the Ex-Servicemen Organization, hoisted the Tricolor. Subsequently, female students from the Government Senior Secondary School, Puruwala, sang the National Anthem. Following this, Shaheed Sher Singh’s sacrifice was commemorated by honoring his family. Office bearers of the organization shed light on the personality and life of Shaheed Sher Singh. Shaheed Sher Singh was deployed in Kashmir under the 28th National Rifles Battalion as part of ‘Operation Rakshak,’ serving under the 14th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Regiment.

On May 27, 2003, Sher Singh attained martyrdom while bravely engaging in combat against Pakistani infiltrators. He will always be remembered for his indomitable courage and valor. Currently, Shaheed Sher Singh’s family consists of his wife Veena, his daughter Rashmi, his son Pankaj, and his daughter-in-law. The family, the village, and the entire region take immense pride in Shaheed Sher Singh’s sacrifice. Office bearers of the Ex-Servicemen Organization (Paonta Sahib and Shillai regions) stated that the nation will forever remember the supreme sacrifice he made to defend the borders of Mother India during ‘Operation Rakshak.’ On this occasion, the wife of Martyr Sher Singh—Veena—along with his daughter Rashmi, his son Pankaj and his wife, industrialist Deepak Goyal, and the Deputy Director of the District Sainik Welfare Department, Deepak Dhawan, were present. Also in attendance were the President of the Paonta-Shillai Ex-Servicemen’s Organization, Karnail Singh; former President Virender Singh; Vice President Harinder Singh; Secretary Omprakash Chauhan; Treasurer Inder Singh; as well as Hakam Singh, Santram, and Surender Singh. Furthermore, Santram Chauhan and Jyoti Chaudhary from the Government Senior Secondary School, Puruwala—along with dozens of students—and several other dignitaries were present.
