जिला सिरमौर में होने जा रहे पंचायतीराज चुनाव इस बार कई मायनों में खास बनते नजर आ रहे हैं। खास बात यह है कि पांवटा साहिब और शिलाई विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में मीडिया से जुड़े कई पत्रकार भी चुनावी मैदान में उतरकर अपनी राजनीतिक किस्मत आजमा रहे हैं। जिला परिषद सदस्य, बीडीसी सदस्य, पंचायत प्रधान और उपप्रधान पदों के लिए पत्रकारों की बढ़ती भागीदारी क्षेत्र में चर्चा का विषय बनी हुई है। जानकारी के अनुसार जिला परिषद सतौन वार्ड-6 सीट से सोशल मीडिया चैनल से जुड़े प्रेम वर्मा चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं और इन दिनों जनसंपर्क अभियान में जुटे हुए हैं। वहीं ग्राम पंचायत भरली-आगरो से प्रधान पद के लिए पत्रकार श्याम लाल पुंडीर वही टोरूँ -डांडा-आंज पंचायत से प्रधान पद के लिए पत्रकार गंगा सिंह तोमर भी चुनावी मैदान में उतरे हैं। इसके अलावा बढ़ाणा बीडीसी सीट-4 से पत्रकार जय प्रकाश तोमर (जेपी) भी चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं। उधर, शिलाई विधानसभा क्षेत्र की ग्राम पंचायत शिल्ला से लंबे समय तक एक दैनिक समाचार पत्र से जुड़े रहे सुरेश ठाकुर प्रधान पद के लिए अपनी दावेदारी पेश कर रहे हैं। वहीं ग्राम पंचायत माशू से मीडिया कर्मी बलदेव चौहान उपप्रधान पद के लिए चुनावी मैदान में उतरे हैं। दोनों विधानसभा क्षेत्रों में पहली बार इतनी बड़ी संख्या में पत्रकारों के चुनावी मैदान में उतरने से पंचायत चुनावों में अलग उत्साह देखने को मिल रहा है। क्षेत्र में इसे पत्रकारों की राजनीति में बढ़ती रुचि और सामाजिक भागीदारी के रूप में देखा जा रहा है।

The upcoming Panchayati Raj elections in District Sirmour appear to be unique in several respects this time around. A notable highlight is that in the Paonta Sahib and Shillai Assembly constituencies, numerous journalists associated with the media sector have entered the electoral fray to try their luck in politics. The increasing participation of journalists contesting for positions such as District Council Member, BDC Member, Panchayat Pradhan (Head), and Up-Pradhan (Deputy Head) has become a major topic of discussion in the region. According to reports, Prem Verma—who is associated with a social media channel—is contesting the election for the District Council Satoun Ward-6 seat and is currently actively engaged in a public outreach campaign. Meanwhile, journalist Shyam Lal Pundir has entered the electoral arena to contest for the post of Pradhan from Gram Panchayat Bharli-Agro, while journalist Ganga Singh Tomar is contesting for the Pradhan’s post from the Toru-Danda-Anj Panchayat. Additionally, journalist Jai Prakash Tomar (JP) is contesting for the Badhana BDC Seat-4. Over in the Shillai Assembly constituency, Suresh Thakur—who has had a long association with a daily newspaper—is presenting his candidacy for the post of Pradhan from Gram Panchayat Shilla. Similarly, media professional Baldev Chauhan has entered the electoral fray for the post of Up-Pradhan from Gram Panchayat Mashu. The fact that such a large number of journalists have entered the electoral arena in both constituencies for the very first time has infused the Panchayat elections with a distinct sense of excitement. In the region, this trend is being viewed as a reflection of the journalists’ growing interest in politics and their increasing social engagement.
