पांवटा साहिब में अतिरिक्त जिला एवं सत्र न्यायाधीश कपिल शर्मा की अदालत ने चर्चित सूरज हत्याकांड मामले में आरोपी मनीष पुत्र सतीश निवासी वार्ड नंबर-09, मद्रासी कॉलोनी, देवीनगर, पांवटा साहिब, जिला सिरमौर को दोषी करार देते हुए भारतीय दंड संहिता की धारा 302 एवं 201 के तहत उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई है। अदालत ने दोषी पर 15 हजार रुपए का जुर्माना भी लगाया है। मामले की जानकारी देते हुए उप-जिला न्यायवादी जतिन्द्र शर्मा ने बताया कि 4 अगस्त 2021 को लक्ष्मी पत्नी रासा निवासी मद्रासी कॉलोनी नंबर-15, देहरादून रेलवे स्टेशन रेस्ट कैंप, उत्तराखंड ने थाना पहुंचकर शिकायत दर्ज करवाई थी। शिकायत में बताया गया कि उसका पुत्र सूरज अपनी पत्नी दया और बच्चों के साथ वार्ड नंबर-7, देवीनगर, पांवटा साहिब में रहता था, जो 27 जुलाई 2021 को शाम करीब 4 बजे से लापता था। बाद में 29 जुलाई 2021 को सूरज का शव छछरोली में यमुना नदी किनारे बरामद हुआ। शिकायतकर्ता के अनुसार आरोपी मनीष की सूरज की पत्नी दया पर काफी समय से बुरी नजर थी, जिसको लेकर सूरज और मनीष के बीच कई बार विवाद भी हुआ था। जिस दिन सूरज लापता हुआ, उस दिन उसे एक फोन कॉल भी आया था। परिजनों द्वारा तलाश के दौरान यमुना पुल के सी.सी.टी.वी. कैमरे खंगाले गए, जिसमें सूरज के साथ मनीष को रिक्शा में विकासनगर की ओर जाते देखा गया। पुलिस ने आरोपी के खिलाफ विभिन्न धाराओं के तहत केस दर्ज कर जांच शुरू की। अभियोजन पक्ष की ओर से अदालत में 22 गवाहों के बयान दर्ज करवाए गए। मामले की पैरवी उप-जिला न्यायवादी जतिन्द्र शर्मा ने की, जबकि मुकदमे की तफ्तीश इंस्पेक्टर अशोक चौहान द्वारा अमल में लाई गई। सभी सबूतों और गवाहों के आधार पर अदालत ने आरोपी को दोषी मानते हुए उपरोक्त सजा सुनाई।

In Paonta Sahib, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Kapil Sharma has convicted the accused, Manish—son of Satish and a resident of Ward No. 09, Madrasi Colony, Devinagar, Paonta Sahib, District Sirmour—in the high-profile Suraj murder case. The court has sentenced him to life imprisonment under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, the court has imposed a fine of ₹15,000 on the convict. Providing details regarding the case, Deputy District Attorney Jatinder Sharma stated that on August 4, 2021, Lakshmi—wife of Rasa and a resident of Madrasi Colony No. 15, Dehradun Railway Station Rest Camp, Uttarakhand—approached the police station and lodged a complaint. The complaint stated that her son, Suraj, who lived with his wife, Daya, and their children in Ward No. 07, Devinagar, Paonta Sahib, had been missing since approximately 4:00 PM on July 27, 2021. Subsequently, on July 29, 2021, Suraj’s body was recovered from the banks of the Yamuna River in Chhachhrauli. According to the complainant, the accused, Manish, had harbored malicious intentions toward Suraj’s wife, Daya, for a considerable period, a matter that had led to several disputes between Suraj and Manish in the past. On the day Suraj went missing, he had also received a phone call. During the search conducted by his family members, CCTV footage from the Yamuna Bridge was examined; the footage captured Manish and Suraj traveling together in a rickshaw in the direction of Vikasnagar. The police registered a case against the accused under various sections of the law and initiated an investigation. On behalf of the prosecution, statements from 22 witnesses were recorded in court. The case was argued by Deputy District Attorney Jatinder Sharma, while the investigation into the trial was conducted by Inspector Ashok Chauhan. Based on all the evidence and witness testimonies presented, the court found the accused guilty and pronounced the aforementioned sentence.
