शिमला के संजौली में अवैध मस्जिद विवाद एक बार फिर गरमाता दिख रहा है। हिन्दू संगठन देवभूमि संघर्ष समिति ने मंगलवार को संजौली पुलिस थाने के बाहर आमरण अनशन शुरू कर दिया। समिति का आरोप है कि विवादित और अदालत द्वारा अवैध घोषित की गई मस्जिद को हटाने में प्रशासन ढिलाई बरत रहा है। साथ ही, पिछले शुक्रवार को नमाज़ के लिए जा रहे लोगों को रोकने के मामले में समिति के छह सदस्यों पर दर्ज एफआईआर को तुरंत वापस लेने की मांग की जा रही है। समिति के सह-संयोजक विजय शर्मा और सदस्य विकास थापटा ने कहा कि अदालत ने संजौली मस्जिद को अवैध घोषित किया है और उसे गिराने के आदेश दे रखे हैं। इसके बावजूद मस्जिद की बिजली और पानी का कनेक्शन नहीं काटा गया।

समिति की मांग है कि 24 घंटे के भीतर यह एफआईआर वापस ली जाए और मस्जिद को गिराने की प्रक्रिया तुरंत शुरू की जाए। विजय शर्मा का कहना है कि अदालत के आदेश स्पष्ट हैं और प्रशासन को बिना देरी कार्रवाई करनी चाहिए। उन्होंने कहा कि यदि पुलिस और प्रशासन ने जल्द कदम नहीं उठाए, तो शुक्रवार को प्रदेशव्यापी बड़ा आंदोलन छेड़ा जाएगा, जिसकी प्रशासन कल्पना भी नहीं कर सकता। गौरतलब है कि बीते शुक्रवार को जुमे की नमाज़ के समय संजौली मस्जिद के बाहर तनाव की स्थिति बन गई थी। पुलिस की शिकायत के अनुसार, दोपहर लगभग 1:25 बजे हिंदू संगठन देवभूमि संघर्ष समिति से जुड़े कई लोग मस्जिद के पास एकत्र हुए और नमाज़ पढ़ने जा रहे मुस्लिम समुदाय के लोगों को रास्ते में रोक लिया। पुलिस ने मौके पर पहुंचकर स्थिति को संभाला और बाद में छह लोगों पर बीएनएस की धारा 126(2), 196, 189(2) और 299 के तहत मामला दर्ज किया।

पुलिस का कहना है कि जांच जारी है और सभी तथ्यों की बारीकी से पड़ताल की जा रही है। बता दें कि संजौली मस्जिद मामला लंबे समय से विवादों में रहा है। नगर निगम आयुक्त ने मस्जिद को अवैध घोषित करते हुए उसकी ऊपरी दो मंजिलें पहले ही गिरा दी थीं, लेकिन तीन मंजिलें वक्फ बोर्ड और मस्जिद कमेटी द्वारा अदालत में चुनौती देने के कारण बची रहीं। 30 अक्टूबर 2025 को जिला अदालत ने भी निगम आयुक्त के फैसले को सही ठहराते हुए पूरी इमारत को अवैध बताया और हटाने के आदेश दिए। यह मामला करीब 16 साल तक निगम आयुक्त की अदालत में चलता रहा, जिसमें 50 से अधिक सुनवाई हुईं। यह विवाद 31 अगस्त 2024 को उस समय सुर्खियों में आया, जब शिमला के मेहली में दो समुदायों के बीच मारपीट हुई और एक समुदाय के लोग संजौली मस्जिद में जाकर छिप गए। इसके बाद 12 सितंबर 2024 को मस्जिद के बाहर बड़ा प्रदर्शन हुआ, जिसकी गूंज पूरे प्रदेश में सुनाई दी।

The controversy surrounding the illegal mosque in Shimla’s Sanjauli appears to be heating up again. The Hindu organization Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti began a hunger strike outside the Sanjauli police station on Tuesday. The committee alleges that the administration is being lax in demolishing the disputed mosque, which has been declared illegal by the court. They are also demanding the immediate withdrawal of an FIR filed against six committee members for obstructing people from offering prayers last Friday. Committee co-convenor Vijay Sharma and member Vikas Thapata stated that the court has declared the Sanjauli mosque illegal and ordered its demolition. Despite this, the mosque’s electricity and water supply connections have not been disconnected.

The committee demands that the FIR be withdrawn within 24 hours and the demolition process of the mosque be initiated immediately. Vijay Sharma says the court’s orders are clear, and the administration should take action without delay. He added that if the police and administration do not take immediate action, a massive statewide protest will be launched on Friday, a scale the administration cannot even imagine. It is noteworthy that last Friday, a tense situation arose outside the Sanjauli Mosque during Friday prayers. According to a police complaint, at around 1:25 pm, several people associated with the Hindu organization Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti gathered near the mosque and blocked members of the Muslim community who were going to offer prayers. Police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control and later registered a case against six people under sections 126(2), 196, 189(2), and 299 of the IPC.

The police say the investigation is ongoing and all facts are being thoroughly examined. The Sanjauli Mosque case has long been controversial. The Municipal Commissioner had already demolished the upper two floors, declaring the mosque illegal. However, the remaining three stories remained untouched after the Waqf Board and the mosque committee challenged them in court. On October 30, 2025, the District Court also upheld the Municipal Commissioner’s decision, declaring the entire building illegal and ordering its demolition. The case continued in the Municipal Commissioner’s court for nearly 16 years, with more than 50 hearings. The dispute came to the fore on August 31, 2024, when a fight broke out between two communities in Mehli, Shimla, and members of one community took refuge in the Sanjauli Mosque. Subsequently, a large protest took place outside the mosque on September 12, 2024, which resonated throughout the state.
