राजकीय स्नातकोत्तर महाविद्यालय शिलाई के इतिहास विभाग के विद्यार्थियों और राष्ट्रीय सेवा योजना (NSS) इकाई के स्वयंसेवकों ने आज दिनांक 16 अक्टूबर, 2025 को ऐतिहासिक दृष्टि से महत्वपूर्ण सुकेती जीवाश्म पार्क का शैक्षणिक भ्रमण किया। यह दौरा इतिहास विभागाध्यक्ष प्रो. रविंद्र शर्मा के निर्देशन और कार्यक्रम अधिकारी यशपाल शर्मा के नेतृत्व में संपन्न हुआ। सुकेती जीवाश्म पार्क एशिया का पहला और सबसे बड़ा ऐसा पार्क है, जो जीवाश्मों की खोज स्थल पर ही स्थापित किया गया है। यहाँ प्रागैतिहासिक कशेरुकी जीवों और विलुप्त जानवरों जैसे हाथी एवं कृपाण-दांतेदार बाघ के आदमकद मॉडल प्रदर्शित हैं। पार्क में जीवाश्म-संबंधी संग्रहालय और व्याख्या केंद्र भी स्थित है। इतिहास के प्रो. यशपाल शर्मा ने विद्यार्थियों को बताया कि यह पार्क शिवालिक पर्वतमाला की भूवैज्ञानिक समृद्धि और क्षेत्र की जीवाश्म विरासत का अद्भुत उदाहरण है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस स्थल को ’90 जियोलॉजिकल साइट’ में शामिल किए जाने से इसका महत्व भूवैज्ञानिक पर्यटन के लिए और भी बढ़ गया है।

Students from the Department of History and volunteers from the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the Government Postgraduate College, Shillai, conducted an educational tour of the historically important Suketi Fossil Park on October 16, 2025. The tour was conducted under the guidance of Professor Ravindra Sharma, Head of the Department of History, and led by Program Officer Yashpal Sharma. Suketi Fossil Park is Asia’s first and largest such park established at a fossil discovery site. Life-size models of prehistoric vertebrates and extinct animals, such as elephants and saber-toothed tigers, are on display. The park also houses a paleontological museum and interpretation center. Professor Yashpal Sharma, Professor of History, explained to the students that the park is a wonderful example of the geological richness of the Shivalik Range and the region’s fossil heritage. He added that the site’s inclusion in the “90 Geological Sites” has further enhanced its importance for geological tourism.
