हिमाचल–उत्तराखंड की सीमा को विभाजित करने वाली यमुना नदी से बेहद दुःखद खबर सामने आई है। पांवटा साहिब थाना पुलिस को टेलीफोन पर सूचना मिली कि तीन युवक यमुना नदी में डूब गए हैं। हादसे की सूचना मिलते ही पुलिस, प्रशासन और गोताखोरों की टीम मौके पर पहुंची और रेस्क्यू ऑपरेशन शुरू किया गया। जांच में पता चला कि शिलाई उपमंडल की ग्वालि पंचायत के तीन युवक यमुना घाट पर स्नान करते समय तेज़ लहरों में बह गए। इनमें अमित (23 वर्ष) पुत्र जोगी राम, कमलेश (22 वर्ष) पुत्र प्रेम सिंह और रजनीश (20 वर्ष) पुत्र प्रेम सिंह, निवासी गांव व डाकघर ग्वालि, तहसील शिलाई, जिला सिरमौर शामिल हैं। पूछताछ में पता चला कि तीनों युवक हरिद्वार से लौटते समय यमुना घाट पर स्नान करने आए थे। इसी दौरान हादसा हो गया।

स्थानीय लोगों ने करीब 15 मिनट तक युवकों को बचाने का प्रयास किया, लेकिन सफलता नहीं मिली। घाट पर मौजूद एक युवक के पिता ने भी नदी में उतरने की कोशिश की, मगर वहां मौजूद लोगों ने उन्हें रोक लिया। घटना की सूचना मिलते ही एसडीएम पांवटा साहिब और पुलिस प्रशासन ने भी मौके का दौरा किया। वर्तमान में गोताखोरों की टीम द्वारा रेस्क्यू ऑपरेशन जारी है। इस घटना से पूरे क्षेत्र में माहौल गमगीन है। घटना की पुष्टि करते हुए पावंटा साहिब के DSP मानवेंद्र ठाकुर ने बताया कि घटना की सूचना मिलते ही एसडीएम पांवटा साहिब और पुलिस प्रशासन ने भी मौके का दौरा किया। वर्तमान में गोताखोरों की टीम द्वारा रेस्क्यू ऑपरेशन जारी है। बरसात के मौसम में नदी के तट पर गोताखोर तैनात थे, लेकिन प्रशासन ने उन्हें 15 सितंबर के बाद हटा दिया। यदि इस हादसे के समय गोताखोर मौजूद होते, तो शायद इन युवकों की जान बचाई जा सकती थी।

Locals attempted to rescue the young men for approximately 15 minutes, but were unsuccessful. The father of one of the young men, who was present at the ghat, also attempted to jump into the river, but was stopped by bystanders.
