हिमाचल प्रदेश के लाहौल स्पीति जिला के राशील गांव के लैप्रोस्कोपी डॉक्टर बाईकिंग भानू को जनजातीय क्षेत्रों में उनकी उत्कृष्ट सेवाओं के लिए राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू ने राष्ट्रपति भवन में सम्मानित किया। राष्ट्र्पति द्रौपदी मुर्मू द्वारा देश भर से जनजातीय क्षेत्रों में सराहनीय कार्य करने बाले जिन जनजातीय गण मान्य व्यक्तियों को राष्ट्र पति भवन में आमन्त्रित किया गया। उसमें हिमाचल से डॉक्टर बाईकिंग भानू एक मात्र प्रख्यात विद्वान हैं। उन्हें राष्ट्रपति द्वारा जन जातीय क्षेत्रों की नीतियों और कार्यक्रमों के निर्धारण और कार्यन्वन के लिए अपने सुझाव देने के लिए आमन्त्रित किया गया।

उनका जन्म 28 अगस्त 1976 को लाहौल स्पीति जिला के राशील गांव में हुआ तथा उन्होंने अपनी आरम्भिक शिक्षा राजकीय विद्यालय कुल्लू से की। उन्होंने 1994 में इन्दिरा गाँधी मेडिकल कॉलेज से एम बी बी एस किया तथा नेवी में कमीशन प्राप्त किया। नेवी में नौकरी करते हुए उन्होंने आर्म्ड फ़ोर्स मैडिकल कॉलेज पुणे से जनरल सर्जरी में एम एस किया तथा दिसम्बर 2011 में जनरल सर्जरी में डी एन बी किया। उन्होंने 18 मई 2004 को बिश्व की सबसे ऊँची चोटी माउंट एवेरेस्ट पर विजय प्राप्त की तथा माउंट एवेरेस्ट पर विजय पाने वाले वह विश्व के पहले डॉक्टर बने। उन्हें माउंट एवेरेस्ट पर विजय पाने के लिए राष्ट्रपति ने उन्हें नौ सेना शौर्य पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया। सर्जन कमांडर के पद पर कार्य करते हुए उन्होंने 12 दिसम्बर 2015 को स्वैच्छिक सेवानिवृति ग्रहण कर ली ताकि बह अपनी मातृ भूमि की सेवा कर सकें।

उनका लक्ष्य राज्य के ग्रामीण, दुर्गम और जन जातीय क्षेत्रों में सस्ती चिकित्सा सुविधाएँ प्रदान करना है ताकि लोगों को घर द्वार पर सेवाएं उपलब्ध करबाई जा सकें। वह दुर्गम क्षेत्रों में कार्य करने बाले सर्जन को लप्रोस्कोपिक विधि से ऑपरेशन करने की नवीनतम तकनीक के बारे में प्रशिक्षण प्रदान करते हैं और इसके लिए उन्होंने “लप्रोस्कोपी लैंसर्स ” नाम का एक ग्रुप गठित किया है। वह भानू अस्पताल कुल्लू और मण्डी के संस्थापक निदेशक हैं और इसके अतिरिकत वह जन जातीय क्षेत्रों में मेडिकल कैंप आयोजित करते हैं। उनके पिता एस डी भानू सेना से लेफ्टी कर्नल के पद से रिटायर हुए जबकि उनकी माता पमोली भानू एक कुशल गृहणी हैं।

Laparoscopy doctor Baiking Bhanu of Rashil village of Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh was honored by President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan for his excellent services in tribal areas. President Draupadi Murmu invited tribal dignitaries from across the country to Rashtrapati Bhavan for their commendable work in tribal areas. Doctor Baiking Bhanu is the only eminent scholar from Himachal among them. He was invited by the President to give his suggestions for the formulation and implementation of policies and programs for tribal areas.

He was born on 28 August 1976 in Rashil village of Lahaul Spiti district and did his early education from Government School Kullu. He did MBBS from Indira Gandhi Medical College in 1994 and got commissioned in the Navy. While working in the Navy, he did MS in General Surgery from Armed Forces Medical College Pune and DNB in General Surgery in December 2011. He conquered the world’s highest peak Mount Everest on 18 May 2004 and became the first doctor in the world to conquer Mount Everest. The President awarded him the Naval Shaurya Award for conquering Mount Everest. While working on the post of Surgeon Commander, he took voluntary retirement on 12 December 2015 so that he could serve his motherland.

His aim is to provide affordable medical facilities in the rural, remote and tribal areas of the state so that services can be made available to the people at their doorsteps. He trains surgeons working in remote areas about the latest techniques of performing operations through laparoscopic method and for this he has formed a group named “Laparoscopy Lancers”. He is the founder director of Bhanu Hospital Kullu and Mandi and apart from this he organizes medical camps in tribal areas. His father SD Bhanu retired from the army as a Left Colonel while his mother Pamoli Bhanu is an efficient housewife.
