राज्य विद्युत बोर्ड लिमिटेड (HPSEBL) द्वारा पांवटा साहिब और इसके अधीन विभिन्न उपमंडलों में पारंपरिक विद्युत मीटरों को हटाकर स्मार्ट मीटर लगाने का कार्य युद्ध स्तर पर चल रहा है। यह स्मार्ट मीटर तकनीकी रूप से उन्नत हैं और पारदर्शिता के साथ उपभोक्ताओं को बेहतर सेवा प्रदान करने के उद्देश्य से लगाए जा रहे हैं। उपमंडल पांवटा साहिब के वार्ड-1, 2 सहित कई अन्य क्षेत्रों में स्मार्ट मीटरिंग का कार्य तेज़ी से किया जा रहा है। यह कार्य बोर्ड द्वारा अधिकृत एजेंसियों के माध्यम से किया जा रहा है। बोर्ड ने उपभोक्ताओं से आग्रह किया है कि वे इस कार्य में पूर्ण सहयोग करें, जिससे किसी भी प्रकार की रुकावट न आए। बोर्ड ने यह भी स्पष्ट किया है कि स्मार्ट मीटरों की लागत उपभोक्ताओं से नहीं ली जा रही है। यह पूरी तरह से निःशुल्क सरकारी परियोजना है, जिसकी लागत HPSEBL स्वयं वहन कर रहा है।

हालांकि, यह खेदजनक है कि विद्युत अनुभाग भंगानी, राजपुरा, बद्रीपुर, कफोटा, राजबन, केदारपुर, प्रेम विहार, मिश्रवाला, सिंघपुरा, मानल सहित कुछ क्षेत्रों में स्मार्ट मीटर स्थापना कार्य में बाधा उत्पन्न करने की घटनाएं सामने आई हैं। HPSEBL ने स्पष्ट किया है कि इस प्रकार की बाधाएं न केवल सरकारी कार्य में हस्तक्षेप हैं, बल्कि यह भारतीय दंड संहिता की धारा 132 के अंतर्गत दंडनीय अपराध भी है। यदि कोई व्यक्ति जानबूझकर एजेंसियों को सहयोग नहीं करता या कार्य में रुकावट डालता है, तो उसके खिलाफ सख्त कानूनी कार्रवाई की जाएगी।

The work of installing smart meters by removing traditional electric meters in Paonta Sahib and various sub-divisions under it is going on at war footing by the State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL). These smart meters are technologically advanced and are being installed with the aim of providing better service to the consumers with transparency. Smart metering work is being done rapidly in many other areas including Ward-1, 2 of sub-division Paonta Sahib. This work is being done through agencies authorized by the Board. The Board has urged the consumers to cooperate fully in this work, so that there is no obstruction of any kind. The Board has also clarified that the cost of smart meters is not being taken from the consumers. This is a completely free government project, the cost of which is being borne by HPSEBL itself.

However, it is regrettable that incidents of obstruction of smart meter installation work have been reported in some areas including Vidyut Khand Bhangani, Rajpura, Badripur, Kafota, Rajban, Kedarpur, Prem Vihar, Mishrawala, Singhpura, Manal. HPSEBL has clarified that such obstructions are not only interference in government work but also a punishable offence under Section 132 of the Indian Penal Code. If any person deliberately does not cooperate with the agencies or obstructs the work, strict legal action will be taken against him.
