सिरमौर जिले के पांवटा साहिब क्षेत्र में बढ़ रही आपराधिक घटनाओं को देखते हुए बस स्टैंड पर सीसीटीवी कैमरे लगाने की मांग फिर से जोर पकड़ने लगी है। क्षेत्र के प्रमुख सार्वजनिक स्थल पांवटा बस स्टैंड पर प्रतिदिन सैकड़ों यात्री आवागमन करते हैं, लेकिन अब तक वहां निगरानी के लिए कोई भी सीसीटीवी कैमरा नहीं लगाया गया है। हाल ही में हुई चोरी की एक घटना के बाद स्थानीय निवासी हेमराज राणा, वीरेन्द्र तोमर, जगपाल चौहान, जयपाल ठाकुर,लाल सिंह,ज्ञान चौहान,कपिल ठाकुर सहित कई जागरूक नागरिकों ने प्रशासन से अपील की है कि यात्रियों और आमजन की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए शीघ्र प्रभाव से बस स्टैंड पर सीसीटीवी कैमरे लगाए जाएं।

स्थानीय लोगों का कहना है कि हिमाचल पथ परिवहन निगम (एसआरटीसी) द्वारा बस अड्डे पर निजी वाहनों और व्यापारियों से कर तो वसूला जा रहा है, लेकिन उन संसाधनों का प्रयोग सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को बेहतर बनाने में नहीं हो रहा है। उन्होंने यह भी तर्क दिया कि सीसीटीवी कैमरे न केवल आपराधिक घटनाओं पर अंकुश लगाएंगे, बल्कि घटना के बाद जांच में भी मददगार साबित होंगे। सामाजिक संगठनों और युवाओं ने भी प्रशासन से जनहित में तत्परता दिखाने की मांग की है। साथ ही यह भी कहा कि मीडिया ने पूर्व में कई बार इस मुद्दे को प्रमुखता से उठाया, लेकिन अब तक कोई ठोस कदम नहीं उठाया गया।स्थानीय लोगों ने चेताया है कि यदि शीघ्र कोई ठोस कार्रवाई नहीं की गई, तो वे जन आंदोलन का रास्ता भी अपना सकते हैं।

In view of the increasing criminal incidents in Paonta Sahib area of Sirmaur district, the demand to install CCTV cameras at the bus stand has started gaining momentum again. Hundreds of passengers travel daily at Paonta bus stand, the main public place of the area, but till now no CCTV camera has been installed there for surveillance. After a recent theft incident, many aware citizens including local residents Hemraj Rana, Virendra Tomar, Jagpal Chauhan, Jaipal Thakur, Lal Singh, Gyan Chauhan, Kapil Thakur have appealed to the administration to install CCTV cameras at the bus stand with immediate effect to ensure the safety of passengers and the general public.

Local people say that Himachal Path Parivahan Nigam (SRTC) is collecting tax from private vehicles and traders at the bus stand, but those resources are not being used to improve the security system. They also argued that CCTV cameras will not only curb criminal incidents, but will also prove helpful in investigation after the incident. Social organizations and youth have also demanded the administration to show promptness in public interest. It was also said that the media has raised this issue prominently many times in the past, but no concrete steps have been taken till now. Local people have warned that if no concrete action is taken soon, then they can also take the path of mass movement.
